Back problems are not uncommon. Many people are concerned about putting too much strain on their backs at work, and not without reason: According to a survey from last year, about 83 percent of all adults complained of back pain in 2017. Almost 80 percent took sick leave as a result. This makes back pain the second most common prevention of work. Fortunately, however, there is a simple remedy that can help.
The basis against back pain: The back support belt
We are talking about the back support belt, which is a quite inexpensive alternative to back pain. This is also the opinion of Dr. Luis Ferraris, chief physician of the Department of Spinal Surgery at the Orthopaedic Clinic Braunfels.
"The best prevention of back pain," he asserts, "is to train your own muscles and maintain good posture."
And a back support belt is simply ideal for this.
Prevention with a back support belt
A back support belt is a wide, semi-elastic belt that is worn in the lumbar spine area, just tight enough to support both the back and abdominal muscles. It is easy to put on, with a Velcro fastener and, depending on the model, with suspenders if necessary, as well as breathable, which distinguishes it from a conventional back brace.
"Such a support belt is best suited for the prevention of back problems," says Ferraris. "Such a belt is simply a very good adaptation of working conditions to a healthy lifestyle with good posture and back training."
The belt cannot replace one's own muscles and fitness 100 percent, the surgeon adds, but it supports them to a great extent.
"I would recommend a back support belt to anyone who works with heavy objects or machines, as well as standing, sitting, or in a stooped position. In addition, workers who work outside or in cold stores can also benefit from such a belt, as it protects the muscles, as well as the kidney and bladder area from cooling."
Back support belts are part of general safety clothing
This does not only mean the individual worker who sees himself as part of the risk group, but as part of the employee pension scheme, such a belt should be part of the general safety clothing in every company, Ferraris continues, adding:
"However, not only the professional, but also every ambitious do-it-yourselfer and hobby gardener should purchase a back support belt as a protective measure."
