Lightweight safety shoes will be the norm

Lightweight safety shoes are very much in vogue. In the past, safety shoes were heavy, clunky and also uncomfortable. Fortunately, those days are long gone. Nowadays, many manufacturers offer modern, comfortable and, above all, lightweight safety shoes. This allows you to master your everyday work much more light-footedly.

How is the weight reduced further and further?

How can the weight of a safety shoe be reduced without sacrificing the necessary safety? There are different options here. Innovative and breathable materials for the upper, such as the MicroFiber Suede from Sixton®, offer a certain weight advantage over the thicker and heavier full-grain cowhide. Nevertheless, these technical fabrics are robust, thanks to constant further development and high-quality materials.

Safety elements such as steel toe caps and steel midsoles are now being replaced by lighter toe caps or textile puncture-resistant midsoles in many work shoes. The toes are protected from falling objects by caps made of plastic, fiberglass or aluminum. However, these modern protective caps offer the same protection as an "old-fashioned" steel cap and are significantly lighter.

High-quality and robust outsoles don't have to be heavy these days. New formulations made from different material components reduce the weight of the sole. However, since several kilometers are covered every day at work, the sole must of course offer a high level of comfort and be durable. The brand manufacturer Maspica from Casalserugo in Italy relies on a PU-PU compound with a new look for the thin sole of the Ritmo series.

What is important to omniprotect.de when choosing shoes?

At omniprotect.de, we always take a close look at the safety shoes before they go into our online shop. For many shoe models, the weight per piece (usually from size 42) is therefore also stored. We were recently convinced by the Cuban S1P safety shoe from Sixton®. Visually, the Cuban really looks good: Italian design, black shaft and a striking blue outsole with further blue accents. Despite the many high-quality technical features, this S1P safety shoe weighs only 520 g per piece (at size 42). Robustness and lightness are combined in the Cuban.

The following features of the Sixton Cuban S1P have also convinced us:

  • high-quality MicroFiber Sued upper, in the area of the toe cap the microfiber material is additionally reinforced with the Pro-tech SXT Light technology made of polyurethane.
  • 3D Air circulation 320 gr. Is a special three-dimensional inner lining, which has extremely good breathable properties in combination with a high resistance.
  • extremely light protective toe cap Alu SXT 2.0 Toe cap, with which the inside of the shoe does not lose any of its comfort. The aluminium cap has different functional strengths, a rubber protection and is shock-resistant up to over 200 joules.
  • the textile puncture-resistant sole Zero (K) Perforation resistant, resists more than 1100 Newtons without puncture, is extremely flexible, lightweight and completely metal-free. This midsole provides protection for the entire sole of the foot
  • Five4Fit replaceable insole: this insole is anatomically shaped, absorbent and breathable. With a layer of memory foam, this multi-layer insole keeps your feet dry and comfortable
  • Lateral stability thanks to Dynamic HC Control, the ergonomic rigid structure in the heel area. This plastic insert prevents annoying slipping out of the safety shoe and supports the joint during lateral movements.
  • Stabilactive is a system for foot support made of stiff plastic material. This arch support provides increased stability to the foot and supports foot movement.
  • ESD shoes dissipate static electricity and prevent damage to surrounding objects. They comply with the following standards: IEC EN 61340-5-1:2016 – IEC EN 61340-4-3:2018 – IEC EN 61340-4-5:2018.

These shoes are recommended for the automotive, logistics, transportation, and light industry sectors.
