Why sustainability is also so important in occupational safety
Sustainability. The topic is on everyone's lips. And from our point of view, that's the right thing to do. The climate, the environment – that affects us all. Not only privately, but also at work and therefore also in the selection of occupational health and safety. And that's why we all have to try to become more sustainable. We think we have to change something immediately. Everyone can do something, and even small changes will have an effect.
That's why we at omniprotect.de have taken a close look at sustainable safety shoes. We asked our suppliers which safety shoes are already being produced sustainably. And can a work shoe be CO2-neutral at all?
Sustainability and climate awareness have definitely already arrived in the world of occupational safety. Many manufacturers are researching more sustainable products and materials, and the first products are already available on the market. Safety shoes are made using recycled material, care is taken to last and vegan safety shoes are already available.
CO₂-neutral safety shoes
At the Italian manufacturer U-Power we got many answers to our questions. U-Power was able to present us with a worldwide innovation: the first CO₂-neutral safety shoe.
Already during the production of the Red Industry Green series, over 50% CO₂ are saved. Attention is paid to the processing of materials with a low environmental impact. For the remaining emissions generated during the production of the Red Industry Green series, U-Power buys emission certificates. In addition, U-Power is a new member of the United Nations Global Compact and is proud to introduce these first CO₂-neutral safety shoes.

The Island S3 safety shoe from the Red Industry Green series is a completely CO₂-neutral work shoe. During production, U-Power has already saved over 50% of CO₂ emissions. The materials used are recycled and high-quality material. The sole and the WOW2 Green footbed are made from a PU from BASF, which comes from 100% renewable sources.
The sporty safety shoe Island S3 is not only CO₂-neutral, but also offers maximum protection according to S3 and the best wearing comfort. The upper of the Island S3 is made of highly abrasion-resistant Putek® Plus with a high proportion of recycled material, which ensures a long service life.
